Auto-generate subtitles OFFLINE with app, even paid?

For last couple of months I've been looking for an app to buy that can auto-generate subtitles OFFLINE (not online, to the cloud).

Does any such program even exist? Everything I've found is one of two types, a subscription-based online option or apps that allow one to MANUALLY type in the subtitles where one transcribes the subtitles typing up what one hears.

A simple app to buy must have existed before all this AI business.

Anyone know of an app?

Vaqa Video Editor can help with it. The app doesn't require installation, works offline (most language models are already included), and is free (you can donate if you wish). You can cut out parts of a video based on text or(/and) create subtitles in different formats and edit them. Cool thing

I agree with this guy. Faster-Whisper-XXL is a good way to go

Guys, found it!

After so much time and effort, even trying the above recommendation but to no avail, I stumbled upon a video a few days ago and tried the solution a few days ago and have already created subtitles (captions) for several videos that didn't have them that I'd been wanting to do for some time.

It works like a dream!

The results are not 100% perfect, but I'm very satisfied with the solution.
I'm going to have to learn to live with imperfect interpretations sometimes (i.e., like today on the video I worked on, the subtitle says: "bite your blood sugar", instead of "spike your blood sugar" where I had to manually switch out the word "spike" for "bite", but I'm not going to bother with most errors because editing still takes waaayyy too much time even with this method doing the generating of the text. Will leave that only for important videos where each word is important).

The solution is SubtitleEdit.

I personally am using v3.6.10 because that's the version I have been using for a long time, and it works. But I'm sure other and later versions work just as well.

As David Mbugua says in this video, Subtitle Edit does all the heavy lifting. One just needs to come along afterwards and save the subtitle file and then make any adjustments, as needed and desired.

The video is self-explanatory and fantastic. Very easy to understand.

It takes some time for Subtitle Edit to generate the subtitles, but it's not very bad. I just walk away and when I come back, the process is often done before the estimated time being shown.

Just an update, I've used SubtitleEdit several times and it works quite well. Not perfectly, I doubt any freeware will work 100%, but I've been very pleased with it.


(But I did find an online YouTube subtitle tool that has been free so far, and for however long it lasts, at this URL here: https://notegpt.io/youtube-subtitle-downloader. Sometimes videos that do have subtitles can't be downloaded with my usual online subtitle downloaders. In that case, I try this online tool and often it works. Sometimes this online resource works when online subtitle downloads don't. Again, not sure how long it'll last as these type of services go behind a paywall, eventually, it seems to me. This tool is for videos that do have subtitles, confirmed when using the "show transcript" button shown in the box below the video if subtitles exist. HTH.)

You should always update to latest version of Subtitle Edit
To make accurate audio transcription you need a computer with a good CPU and preferably a GPU with 8GB VRAM.
