Which has been my preferred 'Go To' option for a long time. But the last 20+ attempts at getting YT videos has had zilch turning up (totally blank) in the main box. It was working just fine not long ago, and nothing has changed here. I'm running the latest version of TD. So I'm currently deferring to one of 4 or 5 other downloaders that I have on tap for regular use, while there remain a few additional others that I could use but normally don't bother to. The other downloaders -- like Allavsoft (also a current version) -- don't seem to be exhibiting any problem like this. Here is one typical example, a YT video that just dropped today:

  3. Please finally stop discussing my product and comparing it to yt-dlp clones!
Instead read previous thread on this forum.

Believe me, I am not singling you out by any stretch of the imagination: I do this for PDF editors, video editors, for browsers, for you-name-it, every category. Because: I'm a firm advocate that just one app in any category is never going to be sufficient to cover all the needs of users, or all of the situations that they are apt to run into. So users will want to stay informed about their other options. One needs a "Plan B" and a "Plan C", to avoid getting marooned with no solution. I'd go so far as to say that having those alternate options available is more of a necessity, if you really want to be prepared for contingencies. There was no intent to slight any particular product; they each have their own particular features, their own particular virtues and shortcomings. I've even found significant result differences, success vs. failure differences, amongst those apps that you lump all together as "yt-dlp clones" -- something that is not incidental or trivial.

Yes, I also wish to express Thanks. The update has been working out well.

(Just out of curiosity, I'd be interested to know exactly what changes YT put into effect to necessitate that update ? They do keep throwing a spanner into the works from time to time. Of course, YT wants to force users to watch their commercials, and to upgrade to the Premium tier of their platform.)

Google own Youtube and recently its been cat 'n mouse with the yt-dlp devs.

The current recommendation is to run
    Code:
    --update-to nightly
on EVERY run - see their discord Help channel https://discord.gg/H5MNcFW63r

To give you some idea of how many changes Google are implementing, yesterday alone, there were 20 commits to Main branch. With a brand new stable release yesterday too.
    https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/releases/tag/2026.06.09
...and 3 commits to Main already today.

And yt-dlp downloads from 1500+ sites, not just YouTube

IMHO for YT - Plan A: yt-dlp, Plan B: TubeDigger in "Rec Mode" (reload page again for faster x6 recording), Plan C: screen recorder.
