  1. I know that I asked the same question many years ago, but I am hoping that there is a more straightforward answer now.

I wish to put some MP4s onto a Blu-ray disc with a menu structure so that they can be played easily by someone with little knowledge.

I have Imgburn and can use it if needed.

If there is something as simple as DVDStyler, but for Blu-rays, that would be great. Freeware or low cost ware preferable.

    Thanks.

    1. DYDStyler can convert MP4 to MPEG2 and author the DVD disc.
    2. ImgBurn can burn the Video_TS folder to blu-ray disc by choosing Write files/folders to disc option. Need to blu-ray disc burner to do this.

Since this produce a DVD format on blu-ray disc, only a blu-ray player or a PC with blu-ray optical drive can play back this disc.
A DVD player will not be able to read this blu-ray disc.

If your video content can fit into 4.5GB, then a DVD disc is good enough and it can play back on a DVD player. If more than 4.5GB, you can author into multiple DVD discs.

Blu-ray disc has 25GB, 50GB, and 100GB so a single disc can store a lot more videos. But it need a blu-ray player to play back.

  3. I have tried MultiAVCHD.
It can generate the Blu-ray structure and I can burn files to BD-R.
However, the menu generated is a little erratic.
When I place the disc in my set top box, it goes directly to the chapter menu, (very small text and blank thumbnails) and I must press the POPUP Menu button to get to the main menu.
On the PC, VLC Media player does not get the menu at all and Pot Player does not see more than one chapter which it autoplays.

I tried installing BD Rebuilder, but it will not allow me to access the second partition on my hard drive, only desktop or Administrator folders, nothing else.

So I am at an impass.

Any other recommendations for a Real Blu-ray disc ?

You should read up more about multiavchd,it has lots of options for menus with choice of motion or still and you can put many videos on the same page or different number of pages.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

    Thank you.

Where can I read up about it? Please provide a link.

    Many Thanks.

  6. When I try to check add top menu, the program throws an error message about AviSynth not being working.
The link is no longer valid.
I found AviSynth, FFDShow, and Haali on the Videohelp Forum and installed them and rebooted and uninstalled Multiavchd and reinstalled Multiavchd, but I still cannot check the box and still get the same error message.

    Any suggestions ?

  7. AviSynth Plus does not solve this problem either.
    multiAVCHD.dat version: [04010767]
Avisynth is not working properly! Menu will not available!

  8. After futzing with this for quite a while, I found this:

    https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/397623-Problems-with-multiAVCHD

Edit: One obscure setting that isn't mentioned by Dean, on the "Settings" page, under "x264" mode using 64bit, change "Threads to use" from AUTO to to 16. This change cleared the Avisynth/FFDShow/Haali error for me.

That finally fixed the Avisynth error to get the checkbox for Top Menu to stay checked.
Now, I can experiment again. Good grief !!

  9. Chapter Menus do not work.
    Title Menus do not work.
One mp4 which converted perfectly before now does not have usable audio.
    I give up on Multiavchd.
It is just too hard to get working.

    Any other program recommendations welcome.
    Thanks.

  10. For the conversion .mp4 to blu ray I would try tsMuxeR.
I do not know what software can create blu ray menus.

I also have not tried Multiavchd so I do not know if it creates menus.

I have used BDRebuilder with no problems.
I do not believe it will create a blu ray from a .mp4.

At some point, one should consider just biting the bullet and stop beating one's head against the wall because free software doesn't work properly.

Magix Video Deluxe authors and burns compliant Blurays with menus.

The cheapest version is currently US$39.99. The more expensive versions have addons; the base program is the same.

  12. I ended up with Yuhan Bluray DVD Creator.
It is a little expensive, but it works really well for what I am doing.
Their tech support is great. They respond promptly and know their product well.
You can do pass through with it.

So, what I did was use Clever ffmpeg-GUI to convert AAC audio in the mp4's to AC-3 48 kHz audio and then remux to container m2ts
That way, there is no transcoding of the video and the file sizes stay small.

In appearance, if I transcode both the video and audio with Yuhan it looks identical to the original, just with a bigger file size.

Each module is sold separately so if you only need DVD or only need FHD Blu-ray, you just buy that one.
Works great. Just a little pricey.
