  1. Anyone here familar with this deck ? I've tried many brands of dvd -R/RW: verbatim -R, Sony -RW, philips -R even a CD-RW, it just reject them -> not compatible.

    Other than that the unit work fine for playing

    I did a firmware update after that but no changes

  3. Some progress made, after cleaning (again) the lens, i can load many dvd-r (philips,verbatim) disc and play them. But as far as recording goes it's a "nope", none accepted.

    Probably the laser strength has gone out of adjustment. I'm wondering if it writes to the calibration area but then decides it
    it's not acceptible because it can't read it back (just a guess)

    I was thinking about that, usually there is one or 2 screws (one for cd/dvd) near the laser to adjust the factory voltage (which decay over time) but on this model i could find none (too bad i didn't take pics) or there were well hidden. I'll have another look later to make sure
