  1. I'm Bruce and I'm hoping to catalog my growing collection of DVD's, blurays and DVD backups. I have a Zidoo Z9X Pro 4K on the way. I have Handbrake, MKV, VLC Media Player, MP3Tag. I have done a few MP4's for older movies, but my biggest issue is with Subtitles. I just backed up one Bluray and downloaded the SRT files, but despite everything I tried they just wouldn't show up.
I like MP4's over MKV files as I can attach an image to the MP4 ,but not the MKV at least so far. I have about 20 movies from DVD's on a Seagate portable 2 TB drive so far. Eventually I need to find a drive or drives with backup for the Z9X.
I'm finally retired so I have time to do this, never realized how long it took to back up on a drive, sounds like I'll need all the time I can get.
So unleash all your knowledge and I'll try and suck up as much as I can.

If you'd like to keep the original quality, you can use MakeMKV to back up just the main movie (no menus)

If you'd like to reduce the size to save space, use Handbrake for the main movie and re-encode.
Of course, you'll probably have to rip the optical disk to the computer first

  3. Got the Z9X Pro and tried it, but WiFi was very spotty. Kept going on and off, so no posterwall. Have to get an ethernet switch. Another thing was I kept seeing chapter 1 like a subtitle, not sure why. Still Subtitles sometime showing and sometime not, even after changing the subtitle options.

I would use MakeMkv for Dvd and Br then transcode to mp4 or mkv. for smaller size.

  5. Just wondering does quick sync speed up Handbrake ? I think my CPU has it, but would it help. Also would it screw up anything else in the process?
So either regular X264 or X264 (NVEnc) which setting in Handbrake, and does the quality suffer?
