I have just started on entering into my workflow a ES-15.

workflow: VCR Player - ES-15- ATI 600 USB- Virtual Dub 1.10.4.

1st time using ES-15 TBC and virtual Dub. I'm able to see the VHS video in virtual Dub so ati 600 usb capture device is working correctly. The problem I'm having is that the ES-15 is connected a S-video (male to male) from the VCR player to ES-15. Is this correct I'm not sure. I did have a problem with the S-video cable connecting to the end of the ES-15. I don't know how to see the setting for the ES-15 TBC using the remote control? Will I see it on the TV, or someone mention I would see it on virtual Dub? Can anyone explain what I need to do? Arethere and YouTube videos or screen shots explaining what I need to do?

    Thank you

Yes, if you can see your video, you will be able to see the ES-15 settings in VDub. On your remote, hit the Functions button (and also the Display button). I have a guide for setting up the ES-15 here. Note that that guide is for PAL units. For NTSC, you can consult the thread on VH here.

You need to connect your VCR to the S-Video IN as signal input which is on the front of the ES-15 only (AV3). The S-Video plug on the back is to be connected to the capture device.
On the remote you have to press INPUT SELECT and then selct AV3 as input.

Depends on the box? I use S-Video AV4 IN on the back, or is that not a good idea?

I don't have an AV4 or S-video IN on my ES-15, only S-video OUT on the rear.

  8. From what I conclude from some European (PAL/SECAM countries) service manuals:
    - model ES15PL has Mini-DIN (aka Hosiden) front and rear S-video IN connectors which are functionally equivalent. Maybe the same for US/NTSC country models.
    - models ES15EB/EP/EC/EG/EBL have Mini-DIN (aka Hosiden) S-video IN on the front panel only

    No idea what else exists.....

I have video coming from the VHS Player (VHS film) and I can see it in virtual Dub. I have 2 remotes for the ES-15 but can't see the settings for the ES-15 on V-dub. I have one no name S-Video on the back of my VCR (only 1 S-video on back of VCR) and in the front of the ES-15 (There are a IN S-video and OUT S-video but cables don't fit in securely like the one on the front.) I'm still not sure why I can't set settings in VirtualDub. I did press function and display pointing to the ES-15 the display screen moves to set 1 and that's it.

I would like anyone's help. Thank you

Of course VirtualDub can not set anything by itself, but you should see Panasonic menu on the Virtualdub (or any other capture tool) screen.
But you mention "SET 1", probably you need to (re)set the remote control(s) of the Panasonic recorders to operate them correctly.

Also see the manual of your ES-15 changing the remote control.

  11. @Infoman37:
On a sidenote: According to the manual page 31 your SONY VCR does NOT output a VHS signal on the S-Video output. That S-video socket is for DVD playback only. For playing VHS tapes the yellow Composite output is useful only (which you connected correctly to the yellow RCA on the front of the ES15).
The S-video cable from VCR to the ES15 has no function for VHS tape playback and you can remove it.

The S-video OUT on the rear of the ES15 has to be connected to the capture card S-Video input using the S-video cable.
(According to your pictures you seem to have no connection from your ES15 to your capture device, hence you will never see anything on the PC (Vdub) screen.)
