I've been using VirtualDub2_44282 and just downloaded the latest version 2.1.3.667. I extracted the files and when I try to run VirtualDub64 the screen dims slightly like something is starting to run and then nothing. There's no VirtualDub2 window and the process doesn't appear in the TaskManager.

How does one get VirtualDub2 to run? Thanks.

That's what I'm doing, double-clicking on the executable but as explained it does nothing. The 44282 version works fine though.

It works ok for me in Windows 10. Where did you download it from?

I downloaded it from this site from the link here:

    https://www.videohelp.com/software/VirtualDub2

I use Windows "Virus & threat protection" in Windows 11 that I keep updated. There are no malware threats listed. There we no firewall notices.

Strange, I can start the 44282 version of VirtualDub2 but not the v2.1.3.667 version.

Same here. 2.1.3.667 will not open in Win 11 23H2.

Empty your plugins64\ folder and try running virtualdub64 without them.
If vdub starts, add back a couple of plugins at a time.

    Empty your plugins64\ folder
"Your" plugins folder? Each version comes with it's own plugins folder. Are you saying the original plugins folder is used by the new version?

  10. 2.1.3.667 from https://www.videohelp.com/download/VirtualDub2_v2.1.3.667.7z
works fine here (Windows 11 24h2_26100_3025).
Maybe you have leftovers from previous versions in your user profile.
Search for virtualdub folders recursively in c:\users and delete every folder that is found.

The 44282 and 2.1.3.667 versions unzipped to their own folders.

In the 2.1.3.667 version I tried moving all the plugins out of the plugins64 folder and same result. Double-clicking on VirtualDub64.exe dims the screen for a brief moment and then nothing.

I looked in %appdata% and didn't see anything related to VirtualDub.

When running the 44282 version I don't see there are any settings to specify a startup folder, temp folder, or anything like that which could affect the 2.1.3.667 version.

  13. Check your system.
    Download Dism-Gui here:
    https://files.videohelp.com/u/292773/Dism-gui.zip

Execute it and click SFC scan.
    Wait until is finished.
If errors are found and fixed, restart the computer and repeat the operation.

If no erros are found, click Restore, then on restore source click online.
This will repair your component store, if faulty.
If repair is successfull, restart the computer and retry to start Virtualdub2.

I didn't think VirtualDub2 could get more buggy.
    I was wrong.

I'm still waiting for the resize filter to be fixed, and I reported it years ago.

If you want to reset vdub2 from the registry, close all instances of vdub2,
open Regedit, navigate to this key in the left pane and rename:

    Code:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VirtualDub.org
    rename to
    Code:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VirtualDub.orgold

I don't have a VirtualDub.org key in the registry. Maybe I'm using only portable versions.

I've got 2.1.3.667 working here now after a computer restart. No unblocking or registry clearing required.

There's one there; don't know which version put it there though, I have run a few VDubs.

44282 and v2.1.3.667 share that key, not sure about other versions
