CCE is faster, but 34 hours sounds like a helluva long encoding time. Either you are encoding a monster movie (>5 hrs length) or are running a "slow" processor. 1.5 hrs movie takes about 1.8-2.0 hrs to encode with TMPGEnc CBR (3.2 hrs for 2-pass VBR) on my 1.7 GHz system.

  3. If your just making a VCD, Nero will encode all AVI files for you, this may not be perfect for all movies, but it's a means to an end, and it probably won't take anywhere near 34 hours, (HINT: do not use any other programs on your computer when you are encoding video, leave the room, and comeback later...this should speed up the process)
To burn or not to burn, that is the question.

  4. I use mainconcepts Mpeg encoder (1.2). For SVCDs it runs at between 0.8 and 1.0 depending on source (1.0 is real time, lower is faster than realtime). My system is an XP2000+. I have just upgraded from a 350MHz pentium II which took a couple of days for two pass VBR on a 1.5Hr film. I am currently quite happy.
