Here is a MediaInfo snip of the of what I want to extract. I used Handbrake on a DVD.
What method is used to extract? I tried converting to MKV and run Itaska but nothing was read.

Try with clever Ffmpeg-GUI.
Load your movie, click main, click extract streams, select the streams to extract on the left and click extract.Last edited by ProWo; 10th Apr 2024 at 03:35.

Ok I've seen the steps in Clever FFmpeg but it only presents video and audio streams not the text stream which is clearly seen in both the short and long view of MediaInfo. That says English timed text.
VLC shows that the subtitle is selectable (of two) I think that is a commentary track but would have recheck.
So it's not burned in and no indication of a VOB optical that could be extracted through Subtitle Edit. -
a Screenshot of how far I am before getting confused or losing where anything is saved...
I seem to have to select target folder over and over at eash load. I've made a separate folder from thother samples I have to simplify.
I'm confused as to what is showing as the file extention--- mov something something.
I'll repeat and see what else I get. -
The extracted file called happened too fast for my seeing it. Then I took what it extracted and put it in Subtitle Edit. SuE told me
the file is empty or vary short. The extraction must have failed. Note that I've seen 2 subtitle entried in VLC-- one was empty with chapters only printing to screen. I have no idea where the 'good' subtitle file is hidden or not seen by CleverFF.
I will see what MKVToolnix shows. -
Here is a program I found in Videohelp softwacalled MP4Box GUI The screenshot shows more info-- something about Apple Quick time or something. I'll see if I get anything under demux

Success. At least I got the extracted text file loaded into Subtitle Edit to proof the fact that there's good content in it.

Rather than using Handbrake I would use MakeMKV directly then looking at the file in MKVToolnix it should show all the tracks.
Normally a mp4 file with timed text subtitles will automatically become a srt format when using mkvtoolnix (make sure it is the latest). I've done hundreds of them over the years. You might have to go into the Header editor to make sure the track is enabled although I doubt that would be the case.SONY 75" Full array 200Hz LED TV, Yamaha A1070 amp, Zidoo UHD3000, BeyonWiz PVR V2 (Enigma2 clone), Chromecast, Windows 11 Professional, QNAP NAS TS851
