  1. Hello everyone and thank you all for the help in advance!

I am trying to convert an AVI file which size is 16,5GB to a smaller and universal format to reproduce in any device triying not to loose audio/video quality.
I tried to convert it to MKV for example with MKV Toolnix and Avidemux, but for some reason, it's not playable in any device so I'm thinking the problem could be with the source file. Can you help me please?

  2. mkvtoolnix can't make this file playable on any device, it can only change the container from avi to mkv. To convert to a format that can be played on any device, you have to change more than the container, using a video conversion program such as handbrake or ffmpeg.

Recommended conversion parameters for maintaining visual and audio quality similar to source:
    - video: x264, crf 18, preset slower
    - audio: aac-lc, 256 kbps, stereo, 48000 hz
    - container: mp4

  3. Post first a mediainfo report (text mode) from your avi file here.
