  1. I don't watch a lot of streamed video. Not handy for me to have a monthly subscription. Prime Video allows me to watch a single show, and get billed (~$2.15) for that one show. My question is, what OTHER services offer that one-shot deal, where you can watch one show, and pay just for that one show without a monthly subscription. I haven't managed to find any.

Amazon lets me watch a lot of shows without buying any of them, not sure why you need to buy shows when you can watch others.

I had a subscription to AppleTV+ few months ago. I think they offer buying individual movies or TV Shows that are not AppleTV+ original production. (not included in the monthly subscription).
If you haven't used AppleTV+ free 7 days trial offer (or longer if you have valid Roku devices or Apple products) then you can check it out.
I am also not keen on having a monthly subscription because it makes me spend more screen time instead of doing something useful like reading or learning new things.

  6. OK, I KNOW I can get free shows (many with ads). I know I can get free shows that I don't want to watch. I want shows I want to watch without ads, and I'm happy to pay for them. This isn't about watching anything that happens to be free. I just don't want to pay a monthly subscription. Options? I will check out Apple TV, though I thought I once tried them. Why does Prime Video offer this option if no none else does?

I think you will find Apple TV+ cost a lot more than Amazon Video, at least in my location.
Amazon Video has a better business model than the others also they sell DVD and Blu Rays and the other streaming sites don't.
Look up Sling TV they have ON Demand service so perhaps this is what you are looking for. I can't test it because it is not availabe in my location.

  8. SlingTV only allows you to watch cable channels. I'm not interested in channels. I'm interested in specific shows. I want STREAMING of specific shows, not channel watching whatever they're deciding to show. Also, I'm really not interested in the cost of monthly subscriptions. I DON'T WANT a monthly subscription. I want to pay for each show watched individually. That's what my question is all about. If I watch two Prime Video shows every month, why would I want to pay $8/month subscription, when I can pay $2/show?

Just look around for any streaming site that sells shows without subscriptions.

  10. That's precisely why I'm here asking this question. Because I DID look around for streaming sites that sell shows without subscriptions, and I didn't find any. My question is whether there are. But it sounds like the answer I'm getting is that people don't know of any others besides Prime Video.

The business model doesn't work to your benefit, it works to THEIR benefit. They want you filling their coffers regularly (whether you fully utilize the service or not). That's why you will almost never see standalone PPV - only as a premium addon to an existing subscription service. Another reason why the fading of physical media is not good for consumers.

  14. For example: https://www.amazon.com/The-Nightmare-Begins/dp/B000H10GSS/

But beware. These types of purchases always have DRM. Your ability to watch your purchased videos can be taken away at any time. If the company that provides the service goes out of business you will no longer be able to watch the videos. If the company has a dispute with the studio that provided the videos you will no longer be able to play the videos. If the company just decides to stop providing the service you will not be able to watch your videos. For example:

Yes, I have to suppose that's correct. But Prime Video doesn't work that way. They let you buy ONE show, without a monthly subscription. (Oh, and I don't have Amazon Prime.)

But I didn't get an answer to my question here, so I have to assume that no one knows.

I wouldn't buy digital only. Had times on itunes where I went to redownload a bought movie and couldn't any longer as they don't licence it any more. All digital providers do this. If you want to still understand your buying unlimited viewing as long as they hold license rights, you don't actually "own" it. Far As where you got itunes, Amazon, and vudu
if all else fails read the manual
