Wow, then all those years that I was hooking things up, creating files, and charging people money for 1000s of convert/capture from VHS was really all in my mind?!!

True, but some analog formats are more compatible with Rec. 601 that other.

For example, color-under used composite or at best Y/C, and the bandwidth of C is, what? about one eighth of Y.
Betacam used (Y, R-Y, B-Y) components with Y having how much? 4 MHz for Y and 1.5 MHz for C.
MII had 4.5 MHz for Y, 1.5 MHz for C. So, CAV formats mapped into Rec. 601 much nicer and became a proper stopgap technology during transition from analog to digital.

I am not arguing with you, just adding

You, we all, are trying hard to make something with the means that are available, by experience one learns, not all people have the same means available, but also do their best, i still think any computer system is a big hurdle to take, to make a good capture, with any (consumer) capture device, a lot of (correct) settings and knowledge are needed, when doing everything yourself.
Prosumer devices may have allready the correct settings, or make it easy to choose from, doing the right thing.
