    Hi,
    For low-res files, or old encoded files - i get this kind of image:
    It seems the Luma channel is completley absent,
    I don't get this with other video players.

    The luma isn't missing. Note for example the bright highlights on the shirts. But the darks are badly crushed. Not knowing what your video looks like it's hard to speculate on what may be wrong in PotPlayer.

    Go to PotPlayer homepage https://potplayer.daum.net/ scroll down, click to "CONTACT US" and send the screenshot and also the link with uploaded sample file to author, it can be just part, use e.g. AviDemux.

    First try the latest beta version and reset settings.
