  1. i want to capture from vhs and into mpeg2 , what is the best capture card for doing this ?

    and can you recomend one to do this?

  2. I'm trying to do the same myself. I use a Hauppage normal WinTV Go card. I found this to be a good card, but setting it up 1st time can be a bit tricky (getting drivers to work etc.

    I can copy video fine - Using FreeVCR (virtual dub keeps crashing). But I can get no sound. unless I put my line out into mic socket, but sound is awful. If you find a way round this I'll be grateful if you could email me & let me know how you did it..

    Im using PCTV-PCI gen5, cost ~ $60 here in my place (wondring why this card was never been discussed in this forum). PowerDirector to capture and edit. Works great and capture quality is very high. Can do caps at 720x480 CBR 7500kbps MPEG2 with AthlonXP 1800 rig.

    I got a wintv card and I feel it works great. I made a bunch of great quality svcd's off my sat tv box. Try using the "line in" connector and make sure the volume is properly set. I'm assuming you get sound from other stuff on your computer?

    Yep tried that.. I got my vcr hooked up via analog ariel. I got no probs with sound. but once I've capped I get no sound tried putting line in to mic but as mentioned before sound is terrible..
