It depends what you encoding to. If VCD it will be 10 MB/min, SVCD about 10-20 MB/min and DVD 20-50MB/min.

So if you have 700 MB avi and the playtime is 100 minutes you will get a 1000 MB VCD MPEG.

I'm going to encode the .avi (DivX) file to SVCD format so I can see it on my DVD player...
Before I got a movie on about 90 mins. on two CD's and the file got to about 1.6 GB...
But now the Encoder is warning me that the file will be up to 4-5 GB large...
It's a bit difficult tp explain, most because I'm not very godd in English...

Do I have to decompress the file somehow ?

The only thing I can think of, would be your bitrate. Make sure its not set too high...

You see, before I had to set the bitrate to a film on about 90 mins. to 1900 or something but now to about 500...
    I don't now what's wrong...

    OK, not worse?
    Thanks buddy!

But I have to say that there's some bugs with this encoder...
Is there any other encoders for free, that is better than TMPG?

  9. This kind of problem in TmpGenc is often cause by VBR encoded audio. It does not seem to recognize the end of the audio correctly. The solution suggested by afwasborstel usually works but can occasionally cause sync problems. The answer in this case is to extract the audio from the video using virtualdub or Goldwave, save as uncompressed PCM and then use that as the audio input to TmpGenc with the avi as the video, then encode.

  10. I always demux my audiostreams..

Thre are some other encoders around...but they are not free

TMPGenc might not be flawless but it is one of the best around

    Goodluck...

Hmm, what do you mean about demux ?

And what program is the best for repairing an mpeg file. I have encoded some files to svcd format but they sometimes stops in the middle of the film...It's freezing in a kind of way..Is this normal?
