  1. I'm not sure if this might be SP1 on Winxp but since I installed it if I try to capture a VHS movie in VirtualDub there is a thick area on top and on the bottom that have normal moving video. In the middle of that video there is a twice as thick white band that approximately equals the top and bottom of the normal looking video captured. This white band doesn't look like corruption and the top and bottom pieces of video captured are normal. I wonder if this could be a security measure so that a professional VHS movie (The Birds)will not be copied? The funny thing is when I copy off of cable (when I stop the video tape and the background cable signal comes in, the thick white band stops blocking the picture.

Please help if you know what the problem might be.

    Thanks

  2. I'm having this problem, too, so any hints will be most appreciated. I can't get A/V sync at all with my Xtsay Everything card and WinDVR, so I tried capturing in VirtualDub, and it may be in sync, but I can't tell for the white bar.

  3. It's my NVidia GeForce4 ti4600 and I guess most or all video cards will come with this security feature? I confirmed it when I installed my old WinTv Theatre card and captured from there instead of from the video in of my NVidia video card and the white band dissappeared while recording the same movie. It doesn't happen with all professional videos but it does happen with some.

  4. I found out what the problem was: it's not a security feature or copy protection, it's the capture driver.

You have to go to the Visiontek website in the UK (follow the link on their US page) and get the latest WDM driver. The one you have, and the one on their US website, is outdated. I got the new driver, installed it and everything's been spiffy since. Try this out and see if it solves your problem, too.
