  1. Hi all,

I have 1000's of family photos that I would like to organize as slide shows based on the scenario (wedding, trip to Singapore...etc). The originals will be archived safely.

Some of the pictures were actually scanned copies of the old prints, and many are from Digital Still Cameras, the latest cell phones.

Given this scenario, what is the best free software to create slideshows (with music)? And what is the best format to go for (mpeg-2, H.264...etc)?

Given that I have got low resolution scanned photos as well as HD resolution modern photos from cameras & cell phones, I am confused as to which format would be best for final slideshow output.

I don't mind paid software if it is so excellent at the task and below $50.

I also need the slideshows to include some sort of automated/manual Ken Burns effects (like moving within a photo, zooming...etc). Some kind of automated highlight videos from the photos (like the ones Google creates automatically on Android phones) would also be nice to have. While most of the photos are widescreen, some of them are taken vertically (imagine keeping the phone in vertical position while clicking the picture).

The final slideshow will be played on Flat Screen LED TV using its native player. The TV can natively play MPEG-2, H.264 (and possibly HEVC I guess).

    Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

Not much demand for these type of videos, but I think Windows 7 has "Photostory" free. Or check for a free app in Win10.

The problems with these videos is keeping the eyeballs from glazing over.
