If I try to eject a disc I hear a whirring sound and have to literally thump the top of the player in order for it to open. I opened the player yesterday and it seems that the disc clamp is magnetic and sticks to the laser assembly when it raises. The only way to eject a disc is for me to push up on the disc clamp in order to allow the tray to move.
I've put a short video on YouTube to show what I mean.

Anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks!

Probably the load belt is slipping and doesn't have enough grip to overcome the magnet. Try cleaning or replacing the belt.

Is that the one under the disc tray? It looks a little loose!
Any idea where I could buy a new one from?
Many thanks! -
Yes, that's the one. One trick you can try is to put the belt in boiling water for 15 minutes or until it's shrunk enough to work again. Otherwise, the most economical replacement will be an O-ring from the hardware store. Try to get one the same size or slightly smaller.

Sharing my LG DVR stuck tray. The tray bottom was scratching the front penal. I took out the DVD drive and put tape on the chasis at the 2 front screw holes. Just enough to raise tray clear of the front housing.

I tried the boiling water trick but no dice; the belt is still visibly loose.
Can anyone recommend a website to buy belts? -
Google "square drive belts." Phillips does not provide a replacement part, so you will need to measure and match your belt.

I've used a small rubber band to replace the belt and it worked.

For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".

The problem with an ordinary rubber band is that it won't last more than a few months. An O-ring from the plumbing section of the hardware store is relatively cheap and will last a lot longer.
