video capture problems regarding vertical lines

i'm having trouble with my leadtek winfast tv 2000 card. everytime i try to capture video via vhs or video cam, vertical lines always appear.

this also appears when i use the tuner capability on cable tv.

this doesn't seem to be a software problem because i tried tmpgenc, dscaler and virtualdub and the lines still appear



here's a sample screenshot on 640 pixels (using virtual dub). i've been having this problem for a long time now. help.

First check that you have nothing that is creating a magentic field or transmission of electrical current anywhere near the source player e.g speakers. The capture quality setting may also have an affect on the amount of information captured creating signal reduction capture. Sometimes have to capture at higher quality even if you want to create a VCD.

That looks power related. Try to unplug any *brick* type power supplies you don't need while capturing. Power supplies to USB devices seem to be the worst for this sort of thing.

I have the same problem, but mine only does it in s-video mode, composite looks fine, s-video has the same lines that yours does. help us

Could be that your card is at fault.

If its only in S-Video mode that this is happening then is possible that the cable is at fault?

this used to be an s-video problem as well. but now it's the same even though i'm using composite.

it's also affecting the cable tv signal btw.

Do you still see this with your cable unplugged to your capture card? What capture drivers are you using? I used to see exactly the same thing here. Turned out to be the power supply to one of my USB devices.

The noise you see is the noise from a switch-mode power supply. S-video is very open to this type of noise. All devices with a switch-mode power supply connected to the same outlet as your PC and or capture card can produce the interference. VCR's, satellite receivers, cable boxes, external computer hardware and any external power supplies. It can even be your TV when recording the video. Turn off all devices and try to find out which one is making the noise. You might also try to move the S-video cable to another location/path.

i'm not really sure about this switch-mode power supply but i ran the computer without the avr and unplugged everything else in the room. the problem is still there. the computer is plugged on a circuit breaker type (the one with many outlets) extension cord btw.
