I have been given a 52" Sony TV Model KDL52W3000
Quality via cable is great.
I have a Pioneer DVD player Model DV 610AV K

I connected HDMI to HDMI cable from DVD to TV. Picture is so dark it is unwatchable.
Tried RCA connections with no improvement.

Same problem with my DivX files.

Any help please

Most TV's have per input picture/audio setting, so it could just be that the brightness for that particula input is way too low. Try adjusting the image controls and see if that helps.

HDMI might be too dark if you have set up the DVD player to use one of its RGB color settings for HDMI instead of using the default Component/YCbCr/YPbPr color setting for HDMI.

When I did a search, your DVD player comes up as multi-region or region free. If that is true, then composite video might be too dark because N. America uses 7.5 IRE for composite video and the rest of the world uses 0 IRE. Using 0 IRE results in an overly dark picture on a N. American TV. Unfortunately I didn't see an IRE setting in the manual, so it doesn't appear that you can change the IRE to 7.5 where it belongs.
