  1. My main goal is to make home dvd movies. I have a JVC DV camcorder that has 1394 and a Pioneer dvd burner. My pc has plenty of horsepower and hd space. What do I need to do this.

    hardware
    software
    etc.

    Thanks

  2. since you are in the same boat as me... i'd recommend pinnacle dv studio... its a good beginners package. Does editing and dvd burning.

more advance you may want to try Adobe Premiere or Video Vegas 3.0 for editing. Try MyDVD for authoring.

I haven't done much authoring since I haven't gotten the dvd burner yet (less than a week) but I plan on trying EZ CD Creator, MyDVD, and others

    good luck

Don't forget you also need a capture device - if your Camcorder has a firewire connection then you should just need to install a FireWire card in the PC.

  4. my bad... i read his post as having a firewire card already.

Pinnacle Studio DV is a good beginners package because it includes the firewire card. It has been approved by JVC as well.

there are many other choices though

  5. ok heres the scoop. I have pinnacle studio 8 and have made a couple videos already but they really suck. I like ps8 a lot but the quality of the dvd is terrible. There are vhs movies that are better. I would think since the camera is all digital and I am putting it on dvd that I would get a crystal clear picture. This is not happening.

  6. my guess would be the mpeg2 codec you are using. Adobe does have a trial version of Premiere.

Uninstall PS8 and try Premiere. I know my JVC (1 megapixel) has awesome quality.

Until I get my dvd burner I can't help you out much more.

When I get mine we ought to get together and test.
