  1. I want to get a capture card to record all content on my DVR and get it to my PC. Thinking about getting one of the Elgato devices.

    1. Is Elgato Game Capture just as good as HD60? Do I truly need the HD60 since all sources on my DVR is 1080i at 29.970 or 720p at 59.940. Nothing is going to be over 30.

    2. With 2.0 software update has their been any change to Game Capture like bitrate (I know it use to do 25 and HD60 does 40)?

    3. If bitrate hasn't been increased to 40 is 25 good enough for TV recordings?

    4. How is the color compared to HD60? is it the same or does one look better?

    - Thanks

I use Hauppauge devices (currently using the Colossus internal card) so I can't comment on Elgato, but I can tell you that for question 3, yes, 25 should be more than sufficient for your TV captures. If you live in the USA then your TV provider likely isn't using anything even close to that any way. My personal testing with Comcast (in the past) and AT&T Uverse (my current provider) suggests that they keep their bit rates under 11 for just about everything. So capturing at 25 means you'll be capturing at a higher bit rate than the source actually had, so that will be fine.

If there is a possibility that you will ever want to record an SD channel in the future, the Elgato Game Capture HD can do it. However, the specs for the Elgato Game Capture HD60 don't list 480i as a supported input resolution.

Unfortunately, the Elgato Game Capture HD has its faults.

CPU usage with the Elgato Game Capture HD is very high. https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/357657-Elgato-Game-Capture-HD-Video-Corruption?p=22...096&viewfull=1

It records segmented TS files and joins them later into an MP4

You have or had an Elgato Game Capture HD60 and should know what it does: https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/366625-Editing-files-from-Elgato-game-capture-device-help

I own a Hauppauge Colossus, which can record up to 20 Mbps. I use VBR recording, and the bitrate can hit a peak of 20 Mbps. I find the quality to be adequate. I like that it can capture the 5.1 channel AC3 stream from my cable box as is, and that several choices of capture software are available. That is not true for either of the Elgato HD capture devices.

High CPU i'm pretty sure is outdated info now due to the latest software, Since it uses your GPU instead of software. Like it use to do in Version 1.0 software. I tried Hauppauge in the past. I had nothing but problems from constant lockups, massive amounts of frame drops to refusing to record 5.1 audio due to my setup.

Fair enough but WHICH Hauappauge device or card? For example the old PVR-150 was rather notorious in that it worked fine for some people and for others it never worked no matter what they did. If you used the old PVR-150 years ago that's a far cry from the current Hauppauge offerings. The HD-PVR family, which includes the Colossus card, all have chips on the device that does the encoding so you really shouldn't get frame drops. Then again you may be confusing apples and oranges here by talking about video game capture problems which have almost nothing to do with capturing from a DVR.

I was using HD PVR 2 model 1512. Picture kept freezing everytime(within the first 10 minutes). I tried it with 5.1, 2.0 and feed it direct from DVR to capture card. Nothing worked, So I got rid of the device.

...and what problems did you have with the Elgato Game Capture HD60 that make you think you should be looking for other solutions?
