This is a picky player. I burned a standard VCD (used VCD template in tmpgenc) onto a virgin CR-RW using Nero and it played fine. Then I went to reuse it so I did a quick erase, re-burned and it didn't play. So I did a full erase, re-burned and it didn't play.
Can CD-RW's be re-used? If so, what could be the problem?

Yes CDRW can be reuse. But like you mentioned, Sony is a picky one (IMHO, super super picky), so I would try a different brand of cdrw. My friend has DVP-S300 and he said sony's CDRWs work best for him.
