  1. Hi, I am thinking about buying TV recording software/hardware for my PC. I've done some research, but I really need you gurus opinions and advice.

OK,I would like to record TV shows with my PC, save as MPEG file, then burn into my CDs after cutting out commercials. I want to have a full-screen quality, not small frame.

Could you guys recommend any software/hardware that can fulfill my requrememts? Again, I really want to have good/professional quality one. How is the WinTV-PVR? Any advice or suggesstion?

My computer is Pentium 4 1.5 GHZ with WinMe. (40 GB) If it is possible, I would like to record tv everyday. I need some stable & good quality one.

Please enlighten me. Thanks in advance.

  2. In all honesty, after trying a few *commercial* programs, I have found that VirtualDub is probably the best capture/encoding/editing application available. I am sure that many on this board will agree with me. You'll also need tmpeg to convert from .avi to mpeg. At least try them out before you dump hard earned $$$ into a commercial program. I get best results with tmpeg 12b.

As for hardware, I suggest you go out and pick an inexpensive ati or pinnacle capture card. You'd be suprised how well I capture with my ATI. High price is certainly not the determining *quality* factor with capture cards anymore. If you're in the U.S. try circuit city. suredeals.com has great prices on ati all in wonder cards.
