Can't see MPEG2 files in TMPGEnc

When I open an MPEG2 file and try to trim it, the preview window is pitch black.
MPG1 files I can see perfectly.
I have 9 days left before the MPEG2 support expires.
Any ideas???

Have u loaded the mpeg2 plugin for Tmpgenc ?
If not see the tools section one this website

or you can frameserve it (after you tell it to view all files) in DVD2AVI into TMPG. Those are your two options.

Select options > environmental settings
click the VFAPI plug-in tab
right click the "DirectShow" and select higher priority, do this several times until its at the top with a value of 4

Tried that, no joy!
Pumped it up to 6 and still no joy!
Any other suggestions please?

p.s. I'm using XP/NTFS and no internet connection on the PC (if that matters).

Ok then you may not have the codec that TMPGEnc wants, PowerDVD 4 has the correct codec.

This may not be your problem, but once TMPGEnc stopped accepting any mpg2 files and I found (with help from people on this forum) that my DirectX was corrupted.

Make sure DirectX 8.0 or 8.1 is installed.

i believe i have the same problem as nobby64....

circleking's post is revelation to me - and may make sense coz my tmpgenc has also expired. directshow causing problems when reading mpg-2 files.

circleking - do u recommend a reinstallation of DirectX 8.1?

i did try KingJohn's recommendation to adjust VFAPI plug-in / higher priority for DirectShow, but that didn't work for me as well.

and just as an FYI, i do have PowerDVD 4 and Nimo's latest version loaded as well. so i am completely at a loss as to why this is occuring. i am hoping circleking's re-installation method is the key - note i am unable test it now

Sometimes having other Mpeg 2 codec's will stop TMPGEnc dead. Apart from what comes with Nimo, only the Power DVD codec should be on the system.

If Direct X is corrupt, there is a lot more things you wont be able to do apart from the conversion.

No point in doing this if your 30 days are up... Get the TMPGEnc Plus 2.57, with Power DVD 4, this works very well

I will try these suggestions tonight when I get home. As far as I remember, I have DX 8.1, latest TMPGEnc, Power DVD4. I will try reinstalling Direct X.
After reading the revision history over at Tsunami's TMPGEnc site, I think my problem is related to the Sony MPEG2 software/codec that I recently installed for my camcorder.
Looks like it might be time to reinstall my last Ghost image as the 30 days is probably expired on this TMPGEnc !!

I've tried all the other suggestions but the situation remains the same!
One thing I've noticed is that if I use the project wizard and select the "source range" option, I see the picture just fine!! This is of no use to me but it tells me that TMPGEnc can see the MPEG2 file ok.
