  1. I have a OPPO 103 blu-ray player connected via HDMI to my Yamaha A/V receiver. When i play DVD's they play fine but when i play a blu-ray disc i get no sound. The receiver can handle all the audio HD formats so the settings must be off. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you connected directly to the amp? Or are you through the tv then to the amp? If its through the tv there might be some audio setting you need to set to allow for hd passthrough so the amp will do the work.

Also on your bluray player there should be an "auto" option for your sound settings. I'd make sure this is selected so that hopefully it is smart enough to send all the hd info to your amp.

I would also try swtiching from pcm to bitstream if it is so selected in your audio settings if there isn't an auto option.

  3. Yes the blu-ray player is connected to the A/V receiver with a HDMI cable and the receiver is connected to the TV by HDMI also.

  4. I just noticed that on the receiver screen it says decoder off. It should not be saying should it?

Like I said check your bluray player for an auto setting. Barring that you should check for a bitsetting option to send the pure digital code over to the amp.

And I hate to say it but read the manual. Or go online to read it if like so many things you didn't get a printed physical manual.

There must be a disconnect somewhere since you are directly connected between the player and the amp.

But whats strange is didn't you say you got sound from dvds but not blurays? What would account for that?

Anyway glad you got it working

Edit - are you only connected via hdmi? Do you have any fiber optic or digital coax for sound and that was why you got dvd not bluray? But it should still transmit the core from the bluray tracks over the digital coax/optic channels, just not the hd audio track.

Oh well. As long as its working with both now I guess it doesn't really matter what happened.
