  1. I've recently been trying to convert old home movies (VHS) into digital. I've edited them using Windows Movie Maker.
My problem is that the videos were in originally 4:3. However, when Windows Movie Maker saves them and I look at them back in VLC - or upload them to Youtube, they appear squashed.

I used WMV Aspect Ratio changer ( http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=116761 ) to convert the video to 32:27 (16:9), however, while the video now looks OK, the fact is that I'm playing a 4:3 video in 16:9 format - which seems odd to me.

Basically, all I want is for my 4:3 video to play in 4:3 format. Sigh.... Is that so much to ask?

I'm a complete noob when it comes to this, so apologies if I'm asking a really stupid question. I'm just tearing my hair out here with frustration.

If you MUST use WMM - there are much better (and still free) options - I would check ALL the settings there. It seems that you inadvertingly saved them as anamorphic 16:9

But to be sure, download mediainfo and post a report from that here for one of your videos.
