Picture in video help.

Hi, i need someones help when it comes to editing my videos. i want to overlay a image so that it sits in the corner of my video when i talk about that image. eg/ if i talk about a cat, i want a little cat picture to pop up for a few seconds. i dont want to create a new slide for the image like you have to do in wmm, i just what a video where i can see myself talking with several visual props to appear to aid my debate. hope you can make sence of this.

p.s. can i do this on any free software and i have windows 7. ty
