Why don't you post a link?
I was in a similar situation several months ago. (And once again, thanks yoda for suggesting the toslink switch).
I didn't see much difference at the low end for these switches on Amazon. (Around $10 bucks or so). In fact, I suspect that all the offerings in that range are made in the same factory, they look so remarkably similar. Some of the variants seemed to have nothing to distinguish them, one from the other, more than how many toslink cables are included.
So I got one with several cables, and it's been fine. I wouldn't worry about some of the bad reviews. Two reasons: First, people who will write a damn fool review are never lacking. Second, this is a dead-simple, and very cheaply made device. If one doesn't work, exchange it for another.
Good luck.Pull! Bang! Darn! -
Yeah, the same factory made the one in the link, and the one I have. Apart from the position of the output being shifted from opposite the #2 input, they're identical. A minor change. Same basic profile, same color scheme.
All it has to do is lock accurately into position.Pull! Bang! Darn! -
Another solution is to use two toslink y adaptors. They will work as long as the input devices don't send an optical signal when they are off.
If you have one divice that always outputs a signal (Tivo, cable box, sattalite box) then piggy back two y adaptors for 3 inputs for the other divices.
If you have two divices that always outputs a signal then get the switch.
