  1. Hello,
I want to record some home video and don't want to use the camcorders mic. I have the Canopus 110 and have tried to use the video out from the camera and the record out as the source for vid and sound. have very old camera Sony digital. simple ? Am I on the right track? would a new camera help or am I not in the ballpark here. trying to make home music vid, doesn't have to be perfect but it sounds like crap if I use the mic from the camera.

you could always record video and audio with the cam and also record the audio with another device. then in your video editing software replace the cam's audio with the other one. syncing them is not all that difficult.

  3. Lola, your question is very ambiguous and you don't mention why you want the amp.

However, the standard practice in music videos (that's what you're trying to do, right?) is to record the music first and then have the musicians and singers perform to a playback track.

That clean playback track is the only one you need in your final piece. The camera mic is useful as a sync reference in post as aedipuss says.

And actually, most camera mics are pretty decent, a lot of the bad sound comes from placement and environmental noise.

Please state your questions more clearly if you want futher help.

  4. Thank you for trying to help and sorry for the lack of info. What I'm doing is playing karaoke tracks from cd through my stereo amp for the music, I have a small mixer with a mic input that my kids use to sing in. I tried to record with the camera but the sound was awful and so I was hoping to run the video out from the camera and the audio out from the record out from the amp into the canopus 110 and get it in my computer. I see there are amps that already have a mic input and was was thinking it might be better. My camera is over due for replacement and I want to get a new one. So what I'm asking is first will this work and second what would be the best choices for a camera and amp. I don't want to spend a lot since this is mostly for fun but my camera is old so I need a new anyways. As far as trying to sync the 2 feeds it scares me, I only ever used my camera through canopus and made DVD's that way. I also have old video program I use it's like ulead video studio 9, I have made DVD's but am not an expert by any means. I'm sure I left out something but any help would be great.

  5. It's getting clearer.

Try this. Get the sound working first. Get your karaoke disks and live mics going from your amp and mixer through the canopus and into your computer.

Once you get that recording properly, add the video from the camcorder into the canopus. You'll probably have to use the camera's analog output. (I'm making a best guess based on your saying its an older camera.)

You may want to specify what camera, amp and mixer you are using.

  6. Thanks so much for getting back to me So I won't blow up the canopus putting the amp rec out into it, the camera is a sony digital tape recorder, I know it's old and I need to replace it. I'm looking for a camera that can be HD even if it can't capture in HD for my project but I think I need a analog output for this thing. I hope u understand I'm working with old stuff, the kids are saying they need an amp with mic echo....what the heck is that I see they sell them so that is why I asked for amp suggestions, the mixer is from radio shack and amp is a sony OLD.....sounds good to me but the brats think I need more. Again thanks for the help

  7. You're going to want to use a line level output from your amp to the canopus. I don't have any useful suggestions for a new one, perhaps someone else will chime in.

The canopus can handle either a digital or analog signal as input, not both at once, so you will have to use the analog output from your camera (or capture as DV in a second pass and sync them up in your editing software.)

As for a new camera, start here: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/Camcorders/ci/1871/N/4294548093 filter by price and brand and see what you like.

Obviously you can compare prices, but their catalogue is quite comprehensive.
