  1. Select the solid layer, and hit "m" to reveal mask properties ; in the mask drop down box it should say "add" by default. Change it to "none"

Back in the effects control panel, you can adjust the amplitude or height of the bars with the "maximum height setting"

  2. Cheers....

Checking 'Inverted' seemed to fix the bands that were cut off, but i'll uncheck it now and try selecting 'none' in the drop down box for comparison.

After that, i'll just need to work out the most important part.... how to get it to react more to bass than the other frequencies. I hope there's an optin for that.

  3. If you want more bass sensitivity, you can "cheat" by adding more bass (you don't have to use the same bass amplified audio when make the actual video, use the original audio. The bass amplified audio is just to drive the visual effect)

The key is to precompose layers or use a nested composition, otherwise the plugin won't "see" effects on other layers

So select the audio track, ctrl+shift+c . You add the effect in the other composition (the one with the audio track only, you double click the new precomposed audio layer in the main composition to reveal it). Effect=>audio=>bass & treble

You can also adjust the start and end frequences of the plugin, or use multiple instances (e.g. you might combine seveeral arcs for the mask path(s) representing certain frequency ranges , instead of 1 single full circle. Or you might duplicate certain frequencies - it's completely up to you for whatever "look" you're going for)

I've been following this thread, and why don't you just animate a "Spectrum Analyzer" image, that you can google, and then just loop it and time it to your song. Eazy-peasy.

Another way is to take a winamp plugin (one of the visulizaton effects) and do a screen capture

But this method with AE plugins has way way way more control and infinitely more customizable options. He's only using a single plugin for this, it's not even scratching the surface of the possibilities even within just internal AE plugins

you sir, are a smart ass

    haha.... thank you.

Next question.... the timeline duration only displays 30 seconds and doesn't have a scroll bar. What's the go with that?

Your composition settings didn't match the audio duration. Right click the main composition in the clip bin and change the duration. I should have mentioned that along with fps, dimensions etc...

Another way you could have done this from the beginning was to take the audio clip and drag to the make new comp button and then adjust the parameters, but you end up having to work backwords if you change the framerate - that's why I suggested doing it the first way
