Bought a TDK CD burner, and it came with a copy of Nero, version 5, which worked great. Even able to upgrade to latest release. Now have bought new computer, and installing the Nero disc results in message that it is only good for TDK drives. Looks like the version packed with TDK drive was OEM'd just for them. Am I forced to buy a new version of Nero, or can I somehow use this version in my new computer?

So goes the saga of OEM software. If your burner is no longer TDK, then a new version is at hand (see if NERO has an upgrade policy). Also, look on eBay - NERO goes for about $10.

  4. OK this is a piece of cake buddy. Do not install nero using your disk. Rather, download the software from nero directly and use the Serial Number that came with your disk to register it. I believe this would be a completely legal way to do it, because as long as you OWN that serial number you should be able to use the software.

This may be a good piece of advice. Just one caveat, though... COMPLETELY uninstall your
OEM version first. This way, all registry entries should be removed. Just hope that the serial number is not tied to the OEM versions.

  8. Okay,
I ran into this problem recently.
My Buslink CD-R/CD-RW writer came with Niro and I was able to upgrade it to 5.5.9.0.
** There was no serial # to enter though ** when I installed the original software on my desktop.

Unfortunately my desktop is old/slow machine.
So I wanted to install the Niro software to my laptop which is very fast.
Then just copy the bin/cue file and burn using my desktop.

Unfortunatley I can't install Niro on my laptop.
Is there a way to do this ?
Previous note talked about serial # but mine did not came with any.

    thanks
    Robert

Look in the original NERO version CD box. The serial number should be there. If 5.5.9.0 is installing on your other machine (and not giving you a "nag" screen), then a valid serial number has been entered sometime in the past.

If not, then it's off to the computer software store with you.

Ok, hope you got it sorted now ?, replied to PM

Help > Enter new serial number

But if its fixed to TDK, then the original is no good you need to download the latest.

If there is no serial number then its fixed, in this case fixed to TDK

Its no big deal If you know what I mean
