    Hello,
I have a BLU-RAY BURNER LG| WH12LS38 installed on my PC (Windows 7) and I am unable to play any bluray movies with it.
The drive seems to work just fine when it comes to opening DVDs and bluray discs.
Actually, I have been able to convert blurays into DVD movies with DVD fab, and the process has been uneventful.
However when it comes to just playing a bluray movie, it never works.
I have tried with VLC and other programs but it just won't work.

Has anyone had the same issue? Do you have any ideas?

    Thanks so much!!!

Have you tried the trial for Arcsoft TotalMedia Theater or PowerDVD? You'll need a commercial program if you are playing encrypted blu ray and want access to the menus.

You can rip the movie to the hard drive with Fab and play the main movie with something like Media Player Classic Home Cinema.

Or you can run AnyDVD HD or DVDFab Passkey for Blu ray in the background and play the main movie from the original disc using VLC or Media Player Classic Home Cinema.

You can also try this plug-in for VLC: https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/343705-VLC-Blu-ray-plugin-Watch-encrypted-Blu-rays-...tly-in-VLC-2-0 That should get you access to the main movie from the original disc using VLC, but when I tried it, I couldn't get it to work for my test blu ray. Might not have been one that will work with this.

I have the exact same burner.

The only time I ever had issues playing back Bluray's on it was when I used PowerDVD, and I'm sure it was PowerDVD because I have been using Totalmedia Theatre for months and it is way better than PowerDVD.

That's for playback with full menu's.
I never tried anything else as I do not think anything else, such as VLC, MPCHC, will allow menu's.

Thank you for such a quick reply.
I tried running AnyDVD in the background and also the plug-in for VLC, but it didn't work.

So basically what we are dealing with is the encryption of the bluray. Is that the issue?

I just want to make sure that there's nothing wrong with the actual bluray drive.
(I guess not, since it can convert blurays to DVDs).

    Thanks again!

If you are trying to use AnyDVD to break encryption on blu ray, you'll need the HD version of AnyDVD.

And you may need to go into the settings in AnyDVD HD and put a check mark in the box to remove Blu ray region code in order to get VLC to work with it.

So, start AnyDVD HD, set the region code I mentioned, put in the disc, start VLC, click on Media-->Open Disc. Under Disc Selection, put a dot in the box for Blu ray and put a check mark in the box for no menu. Browse to the disc drive with your blu ray inserted and click play.

This process is a lot simpler if you use MPC-HC.

Wow! I used TotalMedia Theater and it worked quickly and easily. Thanks a lot guys!
I see that the version I downloaded is just a free trial. But at least now I know that the drive is working the way it is supposed to.
    Thanks again!!!
