For this kind or recording, I use a Hi-MD. When the recording is done just transfer the songs from the minidisc to a PC as a wav file. Edit as needed (you could use Audacity).

More info on Hi-MD on http://www.minidisc.org/hi-md_faq.html#_q101

Is this just a single microphone or multi track? For single microphone or house mixer recording to a PC most anything will work. Try Audacity (free).

For multi-track recording you will need multi mic input hardware and software.

I use Adobe Audition. It's very intuitive.

I'll assume he meant a score/midi editor. Here goes a starting point:

Unnecessary job. Johann Sebastian Bach has already written
all religious music that we'll ever need.

Sonar or Audition. Audition is a resource hog though. I mostly just use it for editing.

We are all guessing the requirement. We need better task definition from the original poster.

  9. If you have a decent microphone (preferably a Condensor mic with pop filter) you should be able to get professional style recordings with Acid Pro or anything similar in the Sony arsenal. I've been producing music for years (thats my job) using Acid with no problems with sound and quality. It really all depends on your mic and sound card set up. I use onboard.
