Hello. I have a Samsung hd player at home. I play my movies by putting the mkv files onto an external HDD and then plugging it to the HD player. The problem is that when I try to play movies with bitrate over 25mb/s, the movie starts lagging and it makes pauses from time to time. This does not happen with movies with bitrate less than 25mb/s. So what do I do?

  2. you can either get a new player , or re-encode using lower bitrate (if that's really the cause) and/or compatible settings

you might use something like ripbot264, handbrake, megui , avchdcoder, (many others)...

for maximum compatibility , you probably want to use "AVCHD" compatible settings

check with samsung forum also, sometimes a certain firmware issue might "fix" the playback problem

  4. perhaps you typed before the message board processed the edit I made.

    e.g. ripbot, handbrake, megui, avchdcoder

there are many guides on how to use the programs when you click on the links

avchdcoder is probably a safe bet to re-encode for compatibility

thanks. but does this process take too long. say, for a 20 gb movie, how much time would it take to reduce the bitrate

It depends on hardware, and quailty/compression settings used. It can take anywhere from couple hours , or days. And you always lower the quality. Current hardware players cannot player the lossless compression varieties

If possible, usually better idea to get more compatible hardware player
