    Its a Panasonic dvd recorder.

I guess the HD inside there is pretty similar to the HD in
my computor, if only there was some way of transfering data !

    Yes.
    1) Make a DVD out of it and rip the DVD on the computer.
    - or -
    2) Buy a video capture card and play the video on the DVD recorder and send the video and audio output to the capture card which records it in real time.

DVD recorders encrypt the drives to prevent you from doing what you probably really want to do, which is to just remove the drive and attach it to a PC. You can do that, but you'll find out that you can't do anything with the encrypted video on the disk. This is why you have to use either method 1 or method 2 above if you want to get the video onto a PC.

just put a dvd -r from my dvd recorder... (finalized)
    put it into computor
    go to my computor

    right click on dvd
    then open

I can see files in there, a lot of bs player files
hit on them and they play samples of the video... perhaps 30 seconds.
but they are just short samples

The main 60 mins of the video is kind of locked into a central play system.
I can play them ok say in windows media player
But I can't get hold of the video files to edit them
or get them into virtual dub.

I used to get love film dvds delivered by post, sometimes 3 a week
you could get into them on the comp and copy the files over to documents very easily.

Finalizing the dvd (on my panasonic ) obviously results in a different system
