Is there a way for when you get to the main menu, to have music (an mp3) playing in the background?
and is this the best software to be authoring with? or should i get something else?

I dont it is possible with dvdit. I coulndt find anyway to add it anyway.

well dvdit is how i say, crap. when i try to add my mpg it just crashes and dies, and i get the windows xp error askin me to send the erorr to MS. im gonna try somethin else.

ok i have given up on dvdshit now, so im using spruceup, can i have an audi file playing in the background on that at all?

I dont' mean to sound harsh (actually I do) but did READING THE FREAKING MANUAL ever occur to you? Check out page 55. Next to the main window click the menu button to display your menus. On the far right open up the media list that you've placed your audio clip in. Drag the audio clip onto the menu that you want sound for. The audio will loop while the menu is displayed.
BTW, this is for DVDit.
