Okay I know this is a video website but I'm hoping there is someone here who might be able to at least point me in the right direction. I've gotten a Nintento Wii for my kids for their christmas present. They are not the best at keeping their disc's in good condition. All movie dvd's I've bought them are backed up immediately. I only give them access to the backups. I really don't want them scratching up their game discs either.

So I've got a couple of questions. How do I go about backing up a Wii disc? Also I've read that in order to play backups on a wii you have to use a modchip. Could anyone point me in the right direction where I could learn more about getting the right mod chip? I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron so I'm not afraid of cracking the case open and doing some "surgery".

I'm searching the forums right now for an answer also....

Just remember it voids the warranty - if you are newcomer to modding. - edit anything that actually requires opening the hardware that is. Softmodding shouldn't void it if softmodding is avaialble (software modding with no internal modifcations - don't know if its possible for the WII but that is what the term means)

Also I don't know if Nintendo is the same way as Microsoft or Sony about banning modded consoles. Nintendo doesn't have a very robust online network. However they do have some multiplayer functionality.

There might be a workaround for the WII or the WII might not ban consoles. DOn't know but you should check into it if you want to go online with it.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

Thanks guys. Been doing some reading. This is for my kids (5 and 10). It will be their first game system. The wode looks interesting. Not sure if I want to plunk down $100 yet though. Of course two ruined discs would cost the same....

Ah the joys of being a parent......

no need for chip (chips are fun too though)

Takes less than an 20 mins to modify very easy to follow instructions (do follow them exactly)

You back up the games with wii software to an external hard drive with apps you put on your wii ex. USB Loader Gx
Harddrive worls best if it is WBFS formatted

Right now they are not banning anyone for playing online

google "Chris Lowthian How to: Softmd your 4.3 Nintendo Wii"

First result should set you straight

Just need a 2GB SD card to get you started along with an external HD
