  1. Hello there,

I hope someone can help. I am trying to create a mpg file with Tmpgenc using the dvd template provided. I load my video file and my .wav audio file. I can not get .wav in the final product though. When I look at the dvd through Smartripper it says that it is a mpeg1 audio fille at 48K. What am I doing wrong? I need .wav audio so it will work through digital connector with my home theatre system. Thanks a bunch

You know that the audio on a DVD is not a wav file....that is why TMPG encodes it into the stream with the mpeg2 video. That is how it should be...then use your authoring program to make the files needed to burn to your DVD.

well you can use a wav file pcm in a dvd -- it is a legal dvd standard - but not used much because of the size -- if you had the wav file to start with and it is 48khz sample rate just use it in your authoring program with the m2v elementry stream - which you can get by de-muxing the mpg file you have.

i dont like mpeg audio on a dvd myself .

the digital connector you are talking about is for either ac3 or dts audio which you can rip off the dvd as is and use with your m2v file - or if you need to make you will need a ac3 software encoder . you load your wav file(s) into it and make the audio ac3 dolby digital file --which then you use in your authoring program (if you have one that accepts ac3)

  4. Hmmm, I am just wondering what type is SVCD audio then. IIs it .ac3? The reason I ask is the dvds I am making do not play through my reciever when hooked up through digital coax connector but SVCDS work fine. I can only use dvd moviefactory for certain reasons so I need a .mpg file. Unless I am wrong. Still new at this. I would rather use Spruceup so i could have .ac3 files but due to limitations on the computer I have to use DVD Moviefacotry. So I guess to watch my back ups I need to be connected analog?

  6. Huh, If svcds are mpeg audio and they play through my reciever when hooked up to the dvd player using the digital connection then why doesn't the dvds work if they too are mpeg audio? Thanks a bunch

commercial dvd are NOT mpg audio most of the time (very very rare to find one like this) - they are for the most part dolby digital .

  8. Sorry what I meant is why don't my back ups I made play if they are also mpeg audio like the svcds I have made which are also mpeg audio? Thanks

if it is a dvd back up to a dvd disk -- the mpeg audio must be 48khz sample rate

if it is a svcd - the audio must be 44.1khz sample rate

    might be your problem

  10. That is what I was thinking maybe. So it can handle mpeg audio at 44K but not at 48K? Seems kind of wierd but I suppose thats what you get when doing all of this stuff. Thanks for the info and hopefully I can figure something out. Thanks

to put it simply ... its a cdr disk -- the audio must be 44.1 and mpeg audio//

if it a dvd-r disk -- the audio must be 48 and can be ac3 (dolby digital), PCM, mpeg audio or DTS//

there are also bit rate limits for each of these.

accually you can have lower sample rates on a dvd disk but i dont know of an authoring program that will use them and some players will not play them (most i believe will not) .
