  1. I want to watch directv on my pc. I am a paying customer of directv and I have an extra directv HD receiver that i want to hook up to my computer. I have a Wintv internal HDTV card model number 1196. I am attempting to connect the directv receiver to the wintv card. I have been unable to make it work so far. I cannot figure out how to configure the wintv card.

    Is this possible

    thanks

The Hauppauge HVR-1250 (1196) card can tune off air ATSC or cable clearQAM but nothing for sat. Directv offers no HD over RF. The HD WinTV cards only cap baseband (RCA) at SD resolution.

Hauppauge models that will work are the HD PVR and Colossus that input via HD analog component. HDMI won't work due to HDCP.

Yes, but the monitor must be HDCP compliant or it won't work. You will need to use RCA stereo connections or S/PDIF for audio. If you are using stereo computer speakers, you need a 3.5 mm male to RCA stereo adapter cable to connect the satellite receiver to your PC.
