Restore old fim, please point me in the right direction for start (picture)

Mpe2Schnitt just seemed like the most intuitive program to me
I tried opening things with virtual dub yesterday, but realized that it doesn't support mpeg2. 2 minutes on google, i found virtualdub mod, so i'll get cracking tonight.

VirtualDubMPEG2 is more stable IMHO.

I hate to bump up my old thread, but it took me a while to get back to work on my video
I am trying to use what Wilbert wrote for AviSynth, and it doesn't seem like DeSpot is doing anything at all. How can i make sure that the plugin is working? I am doing a visual frame by frame comparisons, and there's no difference. The spots are still there.

I am trying to restore some old family videos that have been converted from film, to VHS and now to DVD
The quality is pretty bad, scratches, hairs, and all sorts of bad stuff. I have spend the last three days googling video restoration, and i couldn't find anything besides expensive plugins, and even more expensive services. None of them made sence

Can someone at least point me in the right directions? Are there any automatic ways to clean up the videos and at least improve them a little bit? I am not expecting a miracle, but i don't really want to go in and clean out over 2 hours worth of footage by hand.

Ah, the beauty of e-mail subscription. Can't believe it's been 5 years.
In case anyone's curious, I ended up giving up on restoration. I ended up just chopping up the video and making it into a chaptered DVD.

I am glad that you where able to do something with it. I have ran over this post several times while doing research on restoration work and always wondered what happened.
