Hello, I am new here. I would like a bit of help, if someone can help.
So, I started a project in Premiere and the problem is that it seems that the avi files I need are no good. The other ones, which are MOV, are in "working condition". AVIs are shot with nikon d5000 and MOVs with a canon 5d mark 2. what could be the problem? I put them all in the same sequence. any relevance?

The problem is your version of Premiere. It doesn't natively support the Nikon files. Which is ridiculous, because Nikon is a top camera. You'd think an expensive editing program like Premiere would at least support the common camera brands.

thanks for your reply. it looks like that was the situation. d5000 recordings didn't work. I reshot some with d3100(which are recording .mov files) and they worked. a bit sad that nikon cameras are a bit weak on the filming part. no iso settings, weak sensor in comparison to canon cameras...

another problem emerges. so I managed to finish editing(with minor mistakes but meh). BUT, it looks like it doesn't want to deinterlace the footage. each clip is set to always deinterlace, I also chose deinterlace footage on export, but it looks like nothing is good... only looks like crap. the only deinterlaced footage was the one captured with nikon d3100. the other ones are with canon 5d mark2 and a 60d. I'm running out of ideas. I exported to microsoft dv avi and also microsoft avi with xvid codec, but nothing is good so far... any ideas?

Are you shooting HD or SD? This post should be in the newbie section, but let's go with it.
Get MediaInfo, like FilmBoss requested earlier, and run it on the original file that you say is "no good", and post the result.
Also, your terminology like "looks like crap" doesn't mean anything.Last edited by budwzr; 2nd Jun 2011 at 10:22.

I've been shooting full HD.
so, I downloaded MediaInfo and all the clips give me the same results, so I will post just one picture.
I'm guessing I'm not exporting with the proper settings. cause, as I see, I exported 720X576 at 25 fps

Sorry, I'm allergic to anything religious, makes me gag and puke out green vomit.

DV-AVI is SD . Don't use it.
You're shooting progressive, you shouldn't need to deinterlace
Post your sequence settings, and export settings
PS what does "faget filmari" mean in Romanian ? It might have other connotations in "American" -

Well google translate says "faget shooting"
I'm going to assume shooting in the sense of "filming"
Not sure what "faget" translates to
Nevermind. It's a LOCATION... LOL -
I Googled Burzuc and got this: http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b400/Silverbolt1337/Burzuc.jpg
I'm scared now....just crossed Romania off my bucket list. -
it's nothing religious about it, don't puke already. I'm an atheist.
făget is a forest near cluj-napoca, one of romania's universitary cities(also, about the name, I always call it ****** forest). btw gays were never speared here, they were only beaten on the parades. cause nobody likes gay parades. maybe because 90% of the people who come there are vegans who support the gay parades. or they're in just for the tofu. anyhow, the ones who got speared were not speared for minor offenses. but that's another story/history lesson, which we all know they're all subjective.
I will post the results soon, as I am not near my project yet. but I'm positive that I messed it up with the settings... -
OK ...whew, glad you're cool.
I did read that in Vlad's day, there was no crime because his punishments were so severe.
Anyway, like PDR said, if you're shooting progressive there's no need to deinterlace. The older cameras did shoot 1080i, but your snaps above are not interlaced.
I mentioned Virtualdub because if you're using older software or an older computer, they don't handle H.264 very well, due to the advanced compression. It's better to prerender them to mpeg2. AVIDemux can do this as well. Both have filters, so you can resize the frames beforehand if ultimately going to DVD. That will make editing a breeze.
Everyone seems to want "Full HD" these days, but editing it is no fun. I mostly work in 720p instead because it's a middle ground where you're still in HD, but upscaled SD can also be worked in, whereas in 1080 it doesn't hold up well.Last edited by budwzr; 4th Jun 2011 at 08:39.

Indeed, in Vlad's time there was almost no crime. but I guess it was not the best way of punishing people.
So, I imported the project in a HDV 1080p 16:9 project(I work in premiere cs3 as it's the only software I know how to handle - that meaning I don't know that much) and dragging the sequence to the timeline worked well. now I don't really know if I need to remove deinterlacing from the imported project, but I hope it's not the case, cause I'm rendering ATM to export later. I need to finish it till tomorrow...
thing is I never wanted Full HD, I wanted SD, but I needed a camera that can handle forest light, and the ones that can do this at our university are currently unavailabla(don't ask me why :P) so I had to go with canon 5d mark2 and 60D. they have some advantages, but there are also alot of disadvantages in my oppinion. next time I'll just go for miniDV and that will be that.
thank you for your help! hope it will export well... -
Are you referring to the 5D clips ? It shouldn't even open in CS3...
Anyways, don' t use HDV project settings. Premiere will deinterlace the progressive footage and you will dramatically reduce the quality. Use "desktop" settings (which unlock all the values), and enter custom values that match your assets ie. 1920x1080, 23.976p . There are no premade presets for DLSR until CS5
What is your final format goal ? DVD? Isn't Romania 50Hz region (PAL ?)
If you're making a PAL DVD, premiere will botch the NTSC film rate of 23.976 => 25FPS PAL conversion . By default it will insert blends . A better, more professional way is to do a PAL speedup (speedup both audio and video from 23.976 => 25 FPS) -
thank you very much. it would have worked if I would've done it from the beggining. but as reediting everything in one day was impossible, I just left it like that. when I get some free time(soon, I hope), I will do it right...
