  1. The problem appeared on both component (PSP) and HDMI (XBox360) cables, so it doesn't seem like that's the problem. Although it does seem to be some kind of interference that's causing this, the Shuttle is resting on top of my case at the moment, maybe I should try moving it further away and clearing the cables a bit...

  2. New NEC driver v2.1.16.0 is out:

Also, uncheck Power Management from every USB hub.

  3. Thanks for the link Gradius, I've installed the new NEC drivers and will do some more testing tomorrow. Apparently ASMedia got USB-IF certified as well so hopefully they'll end up resolving the compatibility issues with the Shuttle so I can use the onboard USB 3.0.

  4. Well, my Shuttle stopped working. I'm using BIOS F4 now (much better), but isn't because of BIOS since I performed downgrade and still no go.

Probably is my overclock (I'm running stable at 4.8GHz), will check that soon. Anyway, the driver is v8.0.1.0 now (from 10/05/2011) so it MUST be that. Audio driver is still v7.9.4.0 though.

  5. Well, is not the overclocking. Sigh. I hate those very poorly made drives.

  6. It's still working with the new drivers here. Have your tried reverting to v8.0?

I cannot, I don't know where they come from. I tried everything and so far got no success.

  8. They came from Blackmagic Desktop Video Windows v8.0.

And HOLY COW! I just installed 8.0 and NOW is working again! WTF?!

Now both are v8.0.0.0, I will post the pics. Hang in there.

  11. I haven't had much luck trying to get rid of the audio distortion. Sometimes it records fine, sometimes it doesn't and I don't know why. The thing is that the output audio sounds fine, so the problem seems to be between the Shuttle and my pc. It seems for every problem I solve another one appears...

  12. Everything is fine here. For audio did you tried:

Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Blackmagic Design Control Panel > Audio Levels ?

  13. guys, any idea on my problem? Everything works fine on 7.7.1 and 7.7.0 and I have the latest firmware for my USB 3.0....but once I try to update it to later drivers(haven't tried 7.8.1), it installs fine but after restart, nothing works and my Blackmagic Control Panel is greyed out...

I don't think any of those settings have an effect on the HDMI audio levels?

So they still work with the old drivers? Have you tried the 7.8.1?

Yeah that's the drivers I had tried. Back to 7.7.1 and that's working fine.

Hey Drakin, I recently went with the P8z68 Pro MoBo, unfortunately it also uses ASMedia Controller.

    I have a couple questions.

I want to be able to use this Capture Device, and I was going to use the Buffalo Card, just wondering if you still are having Audio Issues?

When you plugged it into the Onboard ASMedia 3.0 port, did the Shuttle register?
Just wondering, because mine says "Unknown Device"

Also, what MoBo and chipset are you using?

Thanks, looking forward to a reply.

That started from v8.0 drivers and up (dedicated audio).

I still have the audio issues, but those also occurred on the MSI PCIe card so the cause of the problem has to be something else. I'm hoping their technical support can help me find out what's causing the problem. The Shuttle did register correctly (Media Express won't even start otherwise), the only problem was that Media Express showed no preview and I couldn't capture anything. The ASMedia drivers also occasionally caused a BSOD when switching between the tabs in Media Express. I never got the "Unknown device" error though, that seems a bit odd. I'd imagine you should at least be able to get as far as I did. I have a P8P67 LE motherboard (http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8P67_LE/).

Whenever I plug in the Shuttle, it registers as a Unknown Device.
When I contacted them, they simply told me I was out of luck and that my MoBo would not work.

I was thinking of trying a NEC USB 3.0 Card, but you have tried and you are still getting problems.

Should I just RMA the Shuttle for a Intensity Pro?

It's your choice, personally I really want to get the Shuttle to work, getting a Pro is just not an option for me. Technically the Shuttle should work with a Buffalo PCIe card on your system, but of course I can't guarantee that. The Shuttle works perfectly now on my setup as far as recording video is concerned, the only remaining problem I have is the audio. Like I said I highly doubt the audio problem has something to do with the PCIe cards, but I'm still working with their technical support to try and figure it out. Regarding the unknown device, are you sure you installed Desktop Video 8.0.1 and Media Express?

well, I didnt install media express, but I did install Desktop Video 8.0.1 AND I tried desktop Video 8.0.0

Also, you said the audio is only messed up in the video recording, not the actual output right?

  24. After a few days where the video seemed to work fine I'm actually getting the exact same dropout issues again, but this time on the Buffalo PCIe card... This means that the cause of the dropouts (and probably the audio issues as well) has to be the Shuttle or the USB cable. I've contacted BlackMagic again and hope to get a replacement.

Well, I've solved all my problems!

I bought a VisionRGB-E2s, and I don't have any drop-outs, I have two capture channels instead of one, I can capture non-standard resolutions, I'm not limited to 1080i, I can capture in RGB... Man, I should've done this a lot earlier! Would've saved me the frustration .

I've been thinking of doing the same thing for awhile now.
BlackMagic will not allow their cards to capture HDMI as RGB, rather as YUY2.
However, the company I was looking at was ems-imaging.com
Both cards look to do the same things though, RGB, 1080p/60, etc.
Problem with these cards though is no audio... I need LPCM 8Ch.
Also I don't plan on getting dual channel card, one channel is enough (cheaper too).

EMS cards are just rebranded Datapath cards. I would just go straight to the source unless you can get the EMS cards significantly cheaper. If you want to capture audio you could possibly use an HDMI amp-- not quite sure how to go from there but at least it will separate the audio and patch through the video on an HDMI passthrough port.

Anyway, "frame grabber" capture cards have always been in this price range (also from Epiphan), and it seems Blackmagic are competing at a price point where they can't offer service or quality-- I've heard nothing but problems from Intensity Pro/Shuttle users, being a Shuttle user (or should I say "troubleshooter", I haven't had a chance to actually use it) myself. To me it echoes a bit of the old days of Sinclair, who wanted to bring quality products to the common household for a fair price, but instead they ended up breaking down or having issues a lot of the time.

Did look really neat though, that watch. If the static electricity from your shirt didn't cause it to short circuit, that is.
