Hey guys. I m a bit new to the extracting encoding/transcoding world for movies so i need a bit of help. I have some blu ray ripped movies from a friend that will not play on my xbox 360. Most of the time I am finding that when i rip movies or get rips from friends and want to play them on my 360 they seem to have too many audio channels?? Most of the time i can use software to simply convert the video files to a workable xbox 360 copy. However, i am wondering what avenues i should go about when i encounter a situation where it only seems that the audio containers are what i need to change, instead of converting an entire movie and spending many hours waiting for it.
So for example, i have a blue ray rip of a movie that currently will not play on my xbox 360 in this format. I have all the details here. I have Xilisoft Video Convert 6, so i am wondering is this is decent software for converting this file, and if so what is the best format to convert to?? Divx HD or regular Divx? I have many options with Xilisoft, so without losing a lot of quality and audio any advice on what format to convert it to for the xbox would be great !! But if there are some good free ones out there that may work better for my situation for converting faster with better quality let me know !

I am assuming that because of the 6 channel audio, that is why i am having issues? if there are more reasons, let me know. So here are my main questions. What is the simplest/fastest route to take to convert this so it will run on my xbox 360? I assume i could extract the audio and then transcode it back into a new format that will work on my 360. However, if there are faster and simpler ways for me to go, please let me know and if possible give me as many details as possible, such as what are the best software programs to use etc. Thanks for your time !!!

Try this dvdfab -> iso open the iso in fairusewizard and set the output to xbox360, or codec settings xvid.
If the idea is to just reencode tha audio use virtualdub. Set the video output to "direct stream copy" and audio to "full processing mode"
-
If you are just wishing to transcode the audio you just load the avi into virtualdub and follow the instructions for that.
-
It's saying that the avi is unsupported? Try virtualdubmod. If that fails it's possible it doesn't like the AVC codec. Then try avidemux.
-
Well i had changed the file extension so that was my bad. It is an mp4 file but before i had found out it had 6 channel audio, i switched the extension since most times mp4 files work on xbox when you change the extension. I am thinking it doesn't support the movie file since it is not avi maybe?
It is saying it is of an unknown or unsupported file type. So i changed it back to the proper file extension and it is saying the same thing. So i am assuming Vdub doesnt like mp4 files?
Also, if i use the one above you listed is there specific instructions i need, such as what type of audio to encode in etc. All i want is audio that will be supported to run on my xbox. Oh and before i forget to ask, I shouldn't lose too much of the audio quality by changing it correct??Last edited by THUGGY1111; 18th May 2011 at 00:07.

ok i downloaded avidemux since virtualdubmod wasnt recognizing it either. Now i have it open but because i am still a bit of a noob on re-encoding etc, can you give me some step by step instructions on what to do once i load the file etc?? Thank you

Nothing I am suggesting should affect the quality in any noticeble way. Come to think of it for simplicity purposes use handbrake.
-
yah it is 720P so thats understandable. Also it is recognizing the audio as unknown and not giving me any other option. Is that normal? I forgot to mention this is a single file as well, i have not extracted the audio out. I did have the audio extracted in a separate folder a week ago but i deleted it when i found other software that will convert everything for me and there is no need for the extracted audio. So do i need to extract the audio or can i just run this through handbrake as a single contained file?
I am only brining up the "unknown" aspect since in your handbrake screen i see that your audio source shows "Automatic". I dont get that option it just has an unknown where you have automatic with no options. Is that normal??
I can give you more details if i load it up again. I stopped the last session of it when i realized it would take 8 to 10 hours and figured i would convert it again once i am sleeping. Also even though i am converting this back as an mp4 as you suggested, xbox does not recognize mp4 but you can change the file extension on most mp4's to avi and then they work. Is that my plan here? Get this thing down to 2 channel audio, and then change the extension to avi when complete?
-
I get the "unknown audio" when I use it to compress video tutorials I have made, Recorded TV shows, or homebrewn DVDs. It's no big deal. Let's go with avidemux.
1) File -->open (locate your file)
2) Set Video as "copy" or choose a conversion (avc, xvid) whichever suits you.
3) Set Audio as "mp3", or "AC3"
3.5) Audio->Main Track
4) Set Format as something that the xbox will recognise like "avi"
1) File ->Save-> video
At this point you'll have to give it a name whatever.avi and the choose where to output it.Last edited by lowellriggsiam; 24th May 2011 at 11:40.

1 - I've reported your post. Warez/moviez/pirating not allowed See the TOS for vhelp.com.
2 - Buy the movie.
3 - Xilisoft sucks.
4 - Go to Microsoft and see what the 360 supports for video and audio codecs. It's in black and white.
5 - You're lazy AND you want it for free. Not a good combination of personality traits.Have a good one,
