You could try Avi2DVD, this is the program that I use when converting mkv files to dvd format. But, here again, it does not support DTS audio at this time, so you would have to convert the DTS to AC3 (using such as audioconverter in mkvtoolnix) before using the program.

You read a guide, http://www.bitburners.com/articles/convert-mkv-files-for-playstation-3-using-mkv2vob/4022/ or use another mkv to mp4/avchd tool https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/all-in-one-mkv-to-mp4-avchd-ts .

xmedia recode and avi2dvd will reconvert to low quality dvd.

The PS3 doesn't seem to be happy with DTS audio in any format other than authored disc structures (AVCHD or DVD Video) played from optical discs. That said, I haven't bothered with the pseudo VOBs, so maybe that will fool it.

When you suggest that avi2dvd converts to low quality dvd...by that do you mean converting from higher quality HD mkv or that the program itself does a poor job when converting any mkv (SD or HD) to regular SD dvd? I've used it in the past to convert regular SD mkv's to DVD and it functions well. Why would anyone want to convert a high def file to sd dvd?

So it can be played on a plain vanilla dvd player - while preserving widescreen if it has it and digital surround sound downconverted to sd surround sound of course.

I have never used avi2dvd but i have used avstodvd to make dvds from high def sources and it does a very good job.

I believe Baldrick was referring to the fact that the sd dvd will naturally be lower in quality than the original high def source because of the nature of the dvd format itself - not that the program will make an inferior dvd I presume.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?
