How do you get past the 4Gb limit for win 98 using vdub?
I know you enable the multisegment capturing tool but this dosent seem to work.
Do you have to set up a spill system or somthing?

You cannot go beyond 4Gb limit anymore than you can run MacOS on your Windows98. You can circumvent by writing several 2Gb or 4Gb files and that depends on the software program you have to capture.

Everybody is right here. The total capacity of one file in a FAT32 file system is 4.8 Gbyte. If you would use the NTFS file system the limitation for one file would be 12 TByte (12000 Gbyte), but then you'll have to change your operating system to either Windows 2000 or Windows NT, since Windows 98 is not able to read this file system.
I use Windows 2000 and work with 32 Gb AVI files without any problem. -

But even on windows 2000 NTFS the maximum file size limit has been fixed so you can create files greater than 2GB but as far as I am aware the native avi file size limt is still approximatly 2GB.
Your best to use segmented files and these will be loaded up correctly in an application which supports the open avi standard.
Avi 1.0 supports a file size of 2Gb maximum because it only supports "32 bit integers to store offsets within the file"
Avi 2.0 uses 64 bit integer offsets so supports a large file size.
The problem here is not every editing / playback / capture program supports Avi version 2.0

As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."
