I use CD-R for my dvd-rips that i do myself, and cd-rw for movies i get in "other" ways that i want to keep only temporarily until the dvd comes out.

i use cd-r most ofen, to put films i want to keep on vcd. however i also occasionally use cd-rw discs when i want to test various vcd settings on my dvd player before trying a cd-r.
