dvd 2 vcd driving me mad!!!! help needed

I use smartripper, dvd2avi and tmpeg to make movies and i have already made a few without any prob. But after i installed xp it stopped working, i unistalled xp and it still doesnt work.

I even went to the extremes of rebooting, then tried to make a movie again but all of a sudden dvd2avi keeps crashing alot, and when it does work tmpeg will crash near same place over and over.

I tried dvdx and that crashes in the same place as tmpeg.

Please someone tell me what i doing wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

( 1 ) You need to update your atapi 32 driver to XP or NT.
( 2 ) Try Upgrading your memory and use RIMS Not SDRAM
( 3 ) XP works better on a AMD Atherlon or Intel P4 Processor

I installed new atapi drivers and that didnt work.
I'm using Win98 at the moment and i am still having the prob,
