Hi all, i have been looking for a solution for days, and all signs point here, so i hope someone can help.
I have a massive Avi File, it is 55.2GB in size, and when i try to play it, it loads up, as if it is about to play, and then is stuck on pause. It doesn't do anything else, or doesn't allow me to drag it, fwd it etc..

I would like to point out at this time, that i do not have a CLUE about this sort of thing, it is all way beyond my comprehension, when i see all the codecs, and other stuff, i have no idea what i am looking at.

I have tried a few suggestions i found elsewhere on this forum, i downloaded a small program/app called fileinfo.bat and have attached my results.
I have also tried GSpot. Gspot says it has the codecs, and :

Note: 55.2 GB unneeded bytes at end of file
Compatibility Note: DV Type 1 AVI
    AVI v1.0

    Codec dvsd
    Name DVC/DV Video

I have tried VirtualDub, and VirtualDubMod, and they don't do anything (Well, i mean i don't know what to do, and they don't play it).

    I have tried a program called ASF-AVI-RM-WMV Repair V1.82
and it gives me an error saying:
    Error offset: 0x00008010h

A little bit of background about the AVI..

It was put directly on to a Laptop, from a Camera, where it Filled the Hard drive to the brim, and forced it to shutdown.
The laptop was then unusable for a few days, as it wouldn't turn on.
The next guy to get it, Moved the avi from the Laptop to an External HD, where it is now.
I'm trying to play it on XP with SP3 and a load of codecs installed, on an NTFS Partition.

This is the only copy, and it's a wedding..

Any help would be Hugely, gratefully appreciated.
Any more information i can give please let me know and i will try to answer as best i can. Thanks in advance,

    Turvy.

    Worth a shot.

Very doubtful. Codec is DVC/DV. Most likely, the OP's problem lies with the interleaving of Type-1 DV-AVI, which is not compatible with most editing software outside of old Ulead programs. First, try the type-1 to type-2 conversion before anything else.

I think this is the key problem:
It was put directly on to a Laptop, from a Camera, where it Filled the Hard drive to the brim, and forced it to shutdown. The next guy to get it, Moved the avi from the Laptop to an External HD, where it is now.
That makes me think the file is badly damaged and probably incomplete. And that might explain the null sizes in your text attachment.

Newer versions of VD should accept Type 1 or Type 2 DV.

You 'might' be able to open it in a hex editor and substitute a known good header as that may be what what's wrong. Some AVI type formats place the header at the end of the file and it may be missing because of the incomplete file. VD has a hex editor.

Hi again and thanks for all of the replies.

I have tried the DV Type-1 to Type-2 Converter, and i get the message 'Unable to convert this file because it is not DV Type 1 file'

I then tried the DivFix++ and it gives me this message 'I/O Error 131'

I then opened Hex Editor in VD and from there, opened the File, i was able to save that text file, and use the menus, (e.g. File, Edit and Help), But when i go to scroll, i get an Error (Attached) Popping up.

I have attached a screenshot of the Error, and of the HEX file..

    Is it Completely gone?

Unfortunately, it looks like it is gone. That's a lot of zeros where there should be numbers similar to the first line. (Data) Compare that to a known good video and you will see the difference.

    Okay... Dang....

I kinda knew, once i saw all those zero's, but i wished that the few lines on top, may be able to salvage something.. Ah well..

Thanks everyone, millions, for your help..
