Hi..

I've got a strange problem. I'm quite satisfyed with the quality of vcd's and I've got a access to a DVD burner so I'm trying out some stuff here.

I'm trying to make a DVD where I'm using mpeg-2 with the same bitrate and resolution as a vcd. I want to burn the vcd's on a DVD record.
So, I've got a profile witch is 352x288 (yes.. it's PAL) and VBR Avg. 1150, Max 5400, min 320. It produce a very nice mpeg and it's compatible with the DVD format and has the average bitrate of 1150 kbps. If I play this file in a software player the time is correct and the quality is fine.

Before I can author the DVD I need to demultiplex the video from the sound (I have the sound in AC3).
Then I take my generated mpeg file, opens it in TMPGEnc's Simple De-Multiplex (or De-Multiplexi) and I de-multiplex the file and get a .m2v file.

If I know try to look at the .m2v file in a software player the quality is lower and the time is much shorter than the original time. By the way; the real play time is correct...
When I take a closer look at the file (when importet into my DVD author software) it does tell me that the average bitrate is 5400 kbps (the same as my max bitrate)....

I've also tryed to convert directly to "Video Only" so I do not need to de-multiplex but the problem with wrong bit rate is still there.
Anyone got any good ideas what the problem is?

I've done a lot of mpeg convertions both to high res DVD and VCD but never experienced this problem before. Can it be related to the low bit rates?

I've tryed several versions of TMPGenc and all turns out with the same problem.

Cheers
